Hi All,

We need help creating content for the RetroTechCollection Wiki. If you have some free time, and an intrest in a specific area of the wiki, please feel free to sign-up and contribute! It is really appreciated!

Joshua,

I tried to do my part to help out on the WIKI today because there is an error on this page:

Sadly, when I try to REGISTER for editing the Wiki, it throws an INTERNAL ERROR:

1753924958890.webp

If you would like to fix the error, please note the error is found below at the DL21/DL22 row:

1753925008982.webp

It says "2W" under Recommended Replacement but when you pull the datasheets on those two parts, neither is 2W. That BZX85C18 replacement is 1.3W and that 1N4746 part is rated at only 1.0W.

Note that the stock Zeners are 18V 1.25W Izt=20.8mA 1N5931B, so replacing both stock parts with a single 1.25W zener would be a problem. And while I agree that using a single replacement Zener is better than Apple's bad stock design of using two Zeners, having a part that is rated for 3W or 5W is than 1.25W.

We have a discussion going on at the TinkerDifferent forum about those parts, and the replacement we decided upon is this: 1N5355B 5W 18V.

Thank you.

Oh that's not good! Try registering again now, I think I've fixed the issue. We updated to the MediaWiki to 1.44 and it broke a LOT of plugins!

Thank you. I was able to register and I edited the recommended Zeners for DL21 & DL22 just now.

Note that the stock Zeners are 1N5931B (1.25W) and is why I mentioned them, for people who simply want the same parts but raised up on their legs so they don't scorch the PCB anymore. Some datasheets show that part as being 3W, but don't be fooled. It can only be 3W when heatsinked. Open air use like we are doing is 1.25W nominal. I then added a 5W part which should be used as a single piece. Detailed temperature measurements and photos can be seen in the following thread on TinkerDifferent:

Hi everyone!

I'm again reaching out to the community to help contribute to the RTC Wiki, as you probably know, we have a lot of missing pages, whilest I'm trying my best to write as many pages as I can, there is still a lot! You can use any other page as a template or guide to writing new pages, and I encorage you to dive in to any machine or console that you love and know anything about!

If you don't already have a user account on the RTC Wiki, please do make one, we can then give you automoderation rights so you don't have to wait for page approval!

If you have any issues, please feel free to either submit a ticket, or just pop me a message!

All the best,
Josh :)
