I just god bestowed upon me "Beginner's Basic" (1978) for the TI-99/4A and "8080A-8085 Assembly Language Programming" (1979) and think I might as well learn for the hell of it!
Any solid and cheap computers I can use these books to learn on? The TI-99/4A its self seems a bit pricey atm. Anything else?

So, I've actually had exactly the same dilemmer, not with the TI-99 but with learning 8080A. I actually went with an emulator, and managed to get a cheap arduino to do some cool stuff with this emulator https://github.com/udo-munk/Arduino8080. If you're in America, the Tandy TRS-80 is a good shout!
